NBR-Coated Valve Disc — Rubber Mold Tooling Example
This Temco Rubber portfolio project documents tooling for a cast-iron valve disc with an NBR (nitrile rubber) covering. The published manufacturing concept uses a dedicated mold for the metal disc and a separate rubber mold to form the NBR layer over the required surfaces.
Two-Stage Tooling Approach
- Metal component: A dedicated mold is designed around the cast-iron valve-disc geometry and dimensions.
- Rubber covering: A second mold is designed for forming the NBR rubber around the component. The mold design must account for the required coverage, part location, parting lines and removal of the finished part.
Engineering and Inspection Considerations
Valve discs perform sealing functions, so customer drawings should define critical dimensions, rubber-covered areas and application requirements. For similar projects, the selected NBR compound, operating medium, required surface condition and any bond or performance tests must be confirmed for the actual service environment. This case study does not claim a particular test certification or numerical tolerance.
